In
the fall of 1962, a young John F. Kennedy spoke at Rice
University. The topic was space exploration and going to the
moon. When asked, “How are we were going to accomplish this?”
Kennedy’s response was, “with the right people”. You see at the
time the technology; fuel source and a communication system for
such an endeavor had not yet been invented. His speech was
about Vision, Risk, Reward
and the Right People to make that happen.
TeamBuilders WorldWide Launching the Future is an exceptional team
activity that focuses on vision, creative problem solving, risk
taking and delivering to the needs of our clients.
The session includes Kennedy’s
speech along with some motivational clips from the movie
Apollo 13 tied together with whatever principles or themes
we want to drive home for this session. Some of the concepts we
have used in the past include Kouzes and Pozners Leadership
Practices, Jim Collins’s Good to Great and Patrick
Lencioni’s The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.
The team will participate in a
series of problem solving activities through out the day
emphasizing the teams abilities to “do different to do more” in
situations that otherwise seem insurmountable. As the team works
its way thru these challenges they are compensated based on
success. The accumulated compensations create the budget in
which the teams will draw from when purchasing materials,
designing, building and launching its rockets to reach for the
stars. The quality of the sale is based on the guidelines
provided.
Metrics for success
-
Hang time of
rocket will represent how far we have reached for the stars.
-
Quality of
products and its integrity is based on the egg returning to
earth.
-
Egg must not
be broken, cracked or blemished at all.
